Health and Wellness Solutions

Health and Wellness is about more than fitness. It is being in touch with and educated about your body. A measure of your
heath largely determines the quality of life that you live. A few adjustments in the way you eat, coupled with some education about your body and what it needs could grant you an added measure of life. In this section we desire to inform and educate women about issues that may effect their quality of life.
What does "Health and Wellness" mean?

Monthly Featured Article-  Your Three Best Bets for a Healthy Heart

Evidence shows that shift work increases a person's risk of heart disease. However, evidence a study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, shows that heart disease prevention techniques really work. The top three ways to practice prevention? Read on!

1. Lower your cholesterol

First, get your cholesterol levels checked by a health professional. If your cholesterol is high, a diet low in saturated fat, high in fiber, and rich in omega-3 oils found in fatty fish such as salmon and Mackeral will help get levels back on track. Also, regular aerobic exercise clears cholesterol buildup from arteries and raises HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.  New government guidelines have raised the minimum desirable level of HDL " good"  cholesterol to 40mg/d, up from 35. Remember, the more HDL cholesterol you have, the better.

2.  Stop Smoking

Quitting smoking is one of the best favors you can do your heart.  It reduces your risk of heart attack and stroke... in fact, after just one year of staying quit, your risk of heart disease is cut in half.

3.  Control your blood pressure.

Often called "the silent killer" because it has no symptoms, high blood pressure puts you at risk for heart disease.  Get your blood pressure checked by a health professional regularly. You can lower your blood pressure - or maintain it if it is normal- by eating a low-fat diet full of fruits and vegetables, getting regular exercise and watching your salt intake.

Take these tree steps today toward a better health... your heart will thank you.
